Captivating views, colour, charm and comfort: This Wānaka home promises it all

29 Jun 2023

You could be the proud new owner of this brand-new, fully furnished Jennian home in Wānaka, valued at $1.52 million, if you’re the first-prize winner of the Heart Foundation Lottery No. 142.

Using Resene Wan White as a neutral painted background, this home has a gorgeous colour story throughout, with pops of muted blues, greens and oranges to reflect Wānaka’s natural beauty.

This contemporary duplex has views of both Lake Wānaka and the Alps from its second story balcony, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. With Wānaka being one of New Zealand’s favourite resort towns, it was a great choice for Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager, to build a Lottery home there.

The lounge with a stunning view is a bright an open space. The walls and ceiling are painted in Resene Wan White.

“It’s an amazing scenic location,” says Liz. “We’ve built Lottery homes in Wānaka in the past and it’s proven to be a very popular spot. There’s something for everyone with skiing, tramping, biking and a boutique shopping scene to enjoy.”

The team at Jennian Homes Wānaka collaborated with Liz on the design and décor of this home to do something a little different from earlier Lottery homes.

Who wouldn’t want to work from home with this view? The walls in this study are painted in a slightly greyed classic white, Resene Wan White.

New Home Consultant, Jaimee shares her thoughts on this build with us:

What was your design brief for this home?

“We were asked to include ‘pops’ of colour. We may have taken it a bit further than the usual Heart Foundation Lottery homes, but we don’t get a brief like this very often that we can have a bit of fun and creative licence on.”

The master bedroom has a cosy feature wall painted in Resene Shadowy Blue, with surrounding walls and ceiling in Resene Wan White.

What colours did you choose to best reflect this?

“With the help of the Resene Colour Consultants instore at the new Wānaka Resene ColorShop, we decided on a range of interior colours for the different rooms: Resene Wan White (throughout the home), Resene Camouflage (bedroom 3), Resene Green Meets Blue and Resene Wan White (study), Resene Tuscany (bedroom 2) and Resene Shadowy Blue (master bedroom) - as well as the exterior colours of Resene Masala and Resene Arrowtown. We also used wallpaper as a fun feature in the upstairs bathroom and decided on Resene Wallpaper Collection 91343 from the Resene Amazonia Wallpaper Collection.”

What was the biggest challenge you faced during this project?

“The biggest challenge was a last-minute change to the exterior colours. Our original choices didn’t quite work. We had an onsite meeting with a colour consultant and our team, then found the right colours to match the alpine environment and covenants. We think we’ve ended up with a better looking home luckily.”

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

“Our favourite aspect of the design was matching the interior dressing design to the colours we’d decided on. Having the Resene A4 drawdown paint colour samples while shopping made it much easier, and it was fun having colours to work with that weren’t too conservative. We love dressing our Display Homes but with this one, the colours were really out-of-the-box in comparison and made it a great project to be a part of. Having colours that tied in together, in similar tones and that complemented each other made the dressing a delight. The exterior colours really help this house sit proudly on the hill and will look great for years to come.”
