Walls that wow: 2 ideas 4 ways

We’re all looking for ways to make a statement, add some individuality to our interiors, and be a bit different from everyone else.

So, we set a challenge for stylist Megan Harrison-Turner and creative Malcolm White to create some walls with real wow factor to inspire you.

They took the simple concept of some copper chain links, and a ribbon-like swirl, and turned them into some stunning looks you can easily try at home. Check out the on-trend ingredients that make these rooms work:

We’re in love with inky blues. A classic ‘cocooning’ colour, dark blue looks great in any season, depending on what you put with it. The blue we've used, Resene Tangaroa, is a rich marine blue that goes with just about any other colour.

Copper and yellow accents. Definitely two accent colours of the moment, the Resene Copper Fire metallic paint in our images has a rich, rose tint to it without being too light. It fits with the trend towards deeper, more burnished warm metallic shades. The yellow swirl pattern is painted in Resene Turbo, a true bold yellow that follows the trend for citrus-coloured accents.

Organic shapes: We’ve used lots of strong geometric on our walls in recent years – lots of triangles, mountain tops and herringbone patterns. Now, we’re keen to experiment with more organic shapes. Yes, they’re a bit trickier to paint (no straight-line masking tape here), but the results can be stunning.

Velvet sofas and chairs. Normally, we associate velvet with wintry styles with deep, rich colours. The cool Viola chair from Republic Home featured in our setting shows that velvet can have a summery feel too, while the deep-buttoned Chester sofa is a stunner any time of the year.

Whitewashed and greywashed floors. A sophisticated and hugely flexible take on the whitewashed look, we’ve been amazed at how Resene Colorwood Greywash floorboards suit just about any look. Then for a lighter, more casual look, Resene Colorwood Whitewash is a perfect partner for plywood floors.
