Off the wall decorating ideas

In a decorating slump? Wanting to get stuck into a new project for the home? If the ideas are running dry, these five easy decorating projects will get the fire back into your creative belly – using wallpaper from the Resene Wallpaper Collection in clever, inspiring ways.

You typically think of wallpaper as a way to decorate your walls – but what about taking wallpaper off the walls and onto furniture or smaller pieces?

The new habitat plus wallpaper booklet has a section devoted to ideas that use offcuts that are often left over from bigger wallpapering projects, or samples that you can order from your local Resene ColorShop. From there, the ideas flow – from applying wallpaper to furniture for an inexpensive way to jazz up old pieces, to wrapping pictorial wallpaper around a canvas for instant art in the home.

The booklet is also full of useful tips, such as how to choose the perfect wallpaper, and talks about the latest trends in wallpaper – from botanics and luxe looks, to oversized prints and fun themes. Pick up a free copy at Resene ColorShops and selected Resene resellers or read online here.

diy, gold, wallpaper, shelves, resene gold dust

With a lick of Resene FX Metallic Gold Dust and three wallpapers from the Resene Wallpaper Collection, these old shelves have gone from plain and boring to bold and beautiful. Create this look by measuring each shelf section and cutting the wallpaper to fit. Apply wallpaper glue to the wallpaper and paste to the shelves. We’ve used three different designs to create interest: 378003 (top), 378022 (middle) and 378031 (bottom), all available from Resene ColorShops. The wall is painted in Resene Putty, the peg stool is painted in Resene Teak, the large pot is painted in Resene Castaway and the blue pot is painted in Resene Coast.

You don’t need to be a skilled painter to create a fetching piece of artwork. We’ve simply chosen wallpaper with interesting illustrations from the Resene Wallpaper Collection, and applied pieces onto canvas to create an artwork display in this hallway. An alternative is to pop the wallpaper into a suitable frame. This triptych of herons was cut from samples of wallpaper design 98631, while the toile-style wallpaper is design 98570. The wall and hall table are painted in Resene Coast while the vases are in Resene Ashanti and Resene Double Sea Fog.
