Transform your home with Resene’s most striking blues
With the title of most popular colour in the world, blue certainly lives up to its reputation. Evoking feelings of calmness, stability and trust, it’s no wonder it’s also a great choice for interiors, and Resene has a wonderful array of this cool tone perfect for every room in your home.
This spring you can brighten your home with blues while also supporting a good cause at the same time. Buy any blue Resene testpot 60 mL from your local Resene ColorShop (NZ) by 21 September and $1 will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation as part of the Resene’s Paint It Blue appeal.
Picking up some testpots is not only a great chance to support the work the Prostate Cancer Foundation does, but it’s also a wonderful chance to test out different shades you’ve been wanting to try so you can find that ultimate blue you’ve been dreaming of! Here’s some inspiration for light, mid-toned and dark blues to get you started:
Light and beachy
Soft, airy blues bring a sense of joy and comfort, perfect for creating a coastal or calming feel at home. Breezy bedrooms, relaxed living areas, easy entryways and anywhere you want a touch of serenity without being too bold. These look best when paired with whites, sandy neutrals and natural textures like wood, jute and linen.
Fresh blues, off whites and natural touches give this bedroom the cool calm of a coastal look with subtlety and sophistication. Lower wall, bench seat and vase painted in Resene Casper with upper wall and bedside table in Resene Parchment, floor in Resene Colorwood Breathe Easy and ornamental knot in Resene Triple Parchment. Euro pillows and quilt from Kmart, duvet and pillowcases from Foxtrot Home, cushions from H&M Home. Project by Vanessa Nouwens, image by Bryce Carleton.
Gentle blues create an elegant backdrop for this entrance. The walls are painted in Resene Quarter Powder Blue from the Karen Walker Paints collection, floor stain washed in Resene Colorwood Breathe Easy, chair in Resene Powder Blue, shelf in Resene Clouded Blue and planter in Resene Periglacial Blue and Resene Powder Blue. Alongside the two gorgeous shades above – Resene Casper and Resene Quarter Powder Blue – popular light blues to try are Resene Pattens Blue, Resene Quarter Frozen, Resene Link Water and Resene Breathless:
Mid and mellow
Mid-toned blues strike the balance between soothing and lively. These shades can add depth without overwhelming your space, making them a versatile choice for kitchens, studies or living rooms. Team them with warm woods and muted greens – Resene Colorwood Oregon and Resene Yucca – for a grounded feeling, or elevate them with crisp whites or pops of terracotta – Resene Black White and Resene Sante Fe.
Revive your outdoors for spring with a vibrant blue makeover. These walls are painted in Resene Bluff, decking is stained with Resene Woodsman Decking Stain in Natural, table in Resene Quarter Blanc, bench seat in Resene Hammerhead, striped pot in Resene Hammerhead and Resene Halcyon, small pot in Resene Halcyon and light in Resene Solitude. Chair and lemon pot from French Country Collection, tray from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Project by Melle Van Sambeek, image by Bryce Carleton.
The on-trend tones of a mid-toned blue tongue-and-groove wall in Resene Watermark brings the classic blue, white and wood of the Hamptons look right up to date. The front wall adds tonal depth painted in Resene Baring Head, while the flooring in Resene Colorwood Breathe Easy and touches of white keep things fresh. The chair is painted in Resene Indian Ink, shelves in Resene Double Alabaster, ginger jar in Resene Double Alabaster with painted design in Resene Watermark and small vases in Resene Ted and Resene Aoraki. Desk from Danske Møbler, rug from Adairs, side tables from French Country Collections, lamps from Mitre10, mirror from H&M Home. Project by Melle Van Sambeek, image by Bryce Carleton.
We think Resene Bluff and Resene Watermark above are charming, timeless colours. Try other mid-toned blues at home like Resene Ship Cove, Resene Kashmir Blue, Resene Bali Hai and Resene Lynch.
Dark and dramatic
Deep, dramatic blues instantly add sophistication and mood. They’re perfect for creating a cocooning effect in bedrooms, zones in open-plan spaces and contrast. Dark blues pair beautifully with shimmering accents using the Resene FX Metallics range, rich timbers using the Resene Colorwood (interior) and Resene Woodsman (exterior) wood stain range, as well as bursts of accented colours in burnt oranges, rich ochres and striking yellows.
This refined and moody home office is painted with Resene Enamacryl gloss tinted to Resene Gunmetal, a dark charcoal grey blue. The ceiling is painted in Resene Quarter Bianca. Project by Stacy Middleton from Studio Reno NZ, image by Helen Bankers.
The slate blue of Resene Coast coats the walls in this master bedroom, with contrasting Resene Half Black White on adjacent walls and the ceiling. Project by Box Build Limited, image by Sophie Heyworth.
Try the sophisticated hues of Resene Gunmetal and Resene Coast in your own home, or opt for other popular dark blues like Resene New Denim Blue, Resene Madison, Resene Bunting and Resene Indian Ink.
