Valentine’s Day on a budget: DIY painted vases

07 Feb 2024

Flowers and Valentine’s Day go hand in hand, but what if you could present the flowers to your loved one in special DIY glass vases that you made yourself.  These are super cute and can be used all year round, you can even paint over them if you are feeling a different colour or theme! These also make a great gift for mum for Mother’s Day or her birthday!

What you need:

  • Old jars (with labels removed)
  • A small pot of Resene Quick Dry primer
  • Resene testpot paintbrush and fine paintbrush
  • Resene testpots in colours of your choice. We used Resene Ballerina and Resene Alabaster

Step 1: Make sure your jars are clean and free of dust. Give your jars a coat of Resene Quick Dry - this will make it easier for the paint to adhere to the glass and for the colour to look true to colour. Allow to dry. Then paint your jars in two coats of your chosen Resene paint colours and allow to dry between coats. We used Resene Ballerina and Resene Alabaster.

Step 2: Draw your heart design onto the jars using a pencil.

Step 3: Paint over your design using your chosen Resene paint colours. We reversed our pattern and used the same colour as the other jar, with Resene Ballerina hearts on the Resene Alabaster jar and Resene Alabaster hearts on the Resene Ballerina jar.

Step 4: Pop in some flowers and give to your special person.

Wall painted in Resene Alabaster and table in Resene Ballerina.
