Table talk: Make your own terracotta pot spa table
26 Aug 2025
Many of us have old terracotta pots laying around, and this DIY is a great way to give them a new life. If you don’t have any at home, you can pick some up from your local garden or hardware store. Paint yours in your favourite Resene testpot colours and use it in your bathroom like a mini spa table or anywhere in the house, such as the hallway, living room or as a bedside table.
What you need:
- 2x terracotta pots
- 1x large terracotta saucer
- Paintbrush
- Resene Quick Dry
- Industrial adhesive
- Resene Aquaclear Natural
- Resene testpots in your chosen colours. Fleur used Resene Seaweed, Resene Double Villa White and Resene Black
Step 1:Start by priming the two pots and saucer with one coat of Resene Quick Dry. Glue the two pots together with industrial strength adhesive that is suitable for use on terracotta pots.
Step 2: Paint the pots and the saucer with two coats of your chosen Resene colour. Fleur used Resene Seaweed.
Step 3: Using another of your chosen Resene colours, paint on a pattern of your choice. Fleur chose to do a simple flower stem shape in Resene Double Villa White.
Step 4: With another of your chosen Resene colours, paint a flower and another stem inside your other pattern. Fleur used Resene Black for this, inside the Resene Double Villa White shape.
Step 5: Glue the saucer to the top pot. Seal the whole table with two coats of Resene Aquaclear Natural. Wait until dry then add your favourite candle, a plant and a towel. Spa ready!
The wall is painted in Resene Eighth Sisal.
