Make under-bed roller drawers from repurposed furniture

27 Aug 2025

Make the most of your under-bed space with these clever DIY roll-out drawers. Crafted from repurposed dresser drawers or shelving, they’re a practical and sustainable storage solution and are ideal for organising seasonal clothes, spare blankets or kids’ toys. Each drawer glides out on castor wheels and features a clear Perspex dust cover (optional). Finish the drawers in your favourite Resene paint for a personalised touch. It’s a smart way to keep clutter hidden and your space looking its best.

You will need:

  • Drawers to upcycle
  • Swivel plate castor wheels x 8
  • Screws
  • Resene testpot– we used Resene Conch
  • Resene testpot brush
  • (optional) Perspex panels, cut to size for dust covers

Step 1: If needed, prep your drawer front. Lightly sand and apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Sureseal

Step 2: Paint the drawer fronts with your chosen Resene colour. We used Resene Conch.

Step 3: Attach the castors to each corner using a drill or screwdriver

Step 4: Pop in your blankets and roll under your bed.

Above: Drawers painted in Resene Conch and floorboards stained in Resene Colorwood Bleached Riverstone.
