Matariki, the Māori New Year, is marked by the reappearance of the Pleiades star cluster in the mid-winter sky. This year Matariki falls from Thursday July 9 to Saturday July 11, with the national public holiday on Friday July 10.

It is a time for celebrating the present with family and community, remembering those who have passed, and looking to the future with hope.
