23 Dec 2025
Level up your next outdoor party with this kebab serving block. Serve four (or more) different types of your favourite food on a stick in an easy-to-grab format that will quickly become a crowd pleaser. Quick and easy to put together, and sure to be a stunner thanks to the variety of Resene test pots available, this DIY project will kick off your summer of entertaining.
You will need:
· Resene testpots. We used Mocha, Raging Bull,Tussock, Hemlock and Colorwood Walnut
· Untreated pine wood, 180mm wide x 32mm thick x 900mm long
· Saw
· Pocket Hole Jig
· Electric drill and screws
· Wood glue
· Sand paper
· Ruler and pencil
· Set square
· 3mm drill bit
· Paint brush
· Resene Aquaclear satin

Step 1: Start by cutting a length of 180mm wide pine board into two 360mm long lengths. When put together side by side, they should form a square. Use a Pocket Hole Jig to make angled screw holes along one side of the boards. Glue the two boards together with wood glue, and once dry, add the screws. If you don’t have a Pocket Hole Jig, just drive the screws in on an angle and make sure the screw heads are recessed into the wood. Sand rough edges smooth.

Step 2: Use a ruler and set square to mark out a grid on the top of the block for the holes. Make the holes 4cm apart. Use a 3mm drill bit that is the same size as bamboo skewers and drill all the holes.

Step 3: Stain the whole block with a coat of Resene Colorwood Natural Wood Stain in the colour Walnut.
Step 4: Use painters type to tape off sections of the wood. Divide the top surface into four equal squares, and paint one square with two coats of Resene Mocha and the opposite square in Resene Raging Bull (remember to prime first with one coat of Resene Quick Dry).

Step 5: Prime and then paint the two corner edges of the board where the top surface hasn’t been painted with Resene Tussock and Resene Hemlock.

Step 6: To finish, paint over the whole block with two coats of Resene Aquaclear in a satin finish.
