Cracking good ideas for kids

With the long weekend coming up, you may be thinking of ways to keep the kids busy. Here are two clever DIY ideas from Kiwi Families that will keep them entertained:

Egg shell caterpillar microgreens garden

Get them outside while the weather’s still warm, and teach them about planting herbs and small vegetables. These smiling egg shell caterpillars will make it all the more fun.

You will need

  • 6 empty egg shells
  • Resene testpots in Resene Tutti Fruity, Resene Lickety Split and Resene Get Reddy
  • Resene testpot brush
  • An egg carton cut into 6 cups
  • A range of seeds (such as chives, red cabbage, cilantro, amaranth and radish)
  • Seed raising mix
  • Googly eyes
  • A pipe cleaner
  • PVA glue
  • Cotton buds

DIY cloud hair clip holder

It’s a known fact that, like socks, hair clips always seem to vanish into thin air. Keep as many as you can together with this clever idea for a clip holder. The kids will love getting creative with it.

You will need:

Plywood offcut
A jigsaw
Sandpaper
Pencil
Cloud template (free cloud printable here)
Resene Quick Dry Primer and testpot in Resene Ballerina
Resene testpot brush
Light blue and dark blue ribbons
Fishing nylon
Hot glue gun and glue
Blue felt
