The colours of a summer Christmas

03 Dec 2020

Christmas cards made in the Northern Hemisphere often show snowmen and families gathered around the hearth on a cold winter’s day. Here in in the Southern Hemisphere Christmas coincides with sand, surf and summer holidays.

Red and green are the traditional Christmas colours, but shake it up this year with brighter shades that reflect the warmer season.

These Resene Skeptic walls create summer cheer, while the Esprit beach towels all from Briscoes are practical and stylish. While Resene Skeptic is from an older colour collection you can view a large swatch at your Resene ColorShop and it can still be tinted for you. Or for a current alternative try Resene Ashanti from the Resene Multifinish collection.

Resene Skeptic is a soft grey blue that gives a nod to Christmas green, but still screams summer. This light and bright hue is also available in Resene CoolColour, meaning it’s ideal for outdoor furniture as the surface won’t get too hot in the sun. This chirpy green shade will embrace everything from beach towel-brights to sundresses and summer cocktails.

Resene Skeptic makes the bright and delightful hues of Resene Quarter Turbo, Resene Roxy, Resene Malibu and Resene Glamour Puss seem even more cheerful.  While Resene Skeptic is from an older colour collection you can view a large swatch at your Resene ColorShop and it can still be tinted for you.  Or for a current alternative try Resene Ashanti from the Resene Multifinish collection.

The wall is painted in Resene Skeptic, a great contrast for a festival cocktail served in the Kilner Vintage Drink Dispenser from Briscoes. While Resene Skeptic is from an older colour collection you can view a large swatch at your Resene ColorShop and it can still be tinted for you.  Or for a current alternative try Resene Ashanti from the Resene Multifinish collection.

Switch cherry red for the warm terracotta of Resene Contessa. This Spanish-inspired hue has a Mediterranean feel, which fits in just as well in the Pacific.

Pair Resene Contessa with an ochre tinted cream such as Resene Gin Fizz, a blue green such as Resene Aqua and jaunty Resene Jordy Blue and a bright yellow such as Resene Gorse.  While Resene Contessa is from an older colour collection you can view a large swatch at your Resene ColorShop and it can still be tinted for you.  Or for a current alternative try Resene New York Pink from the Resene Multifinish collection.

The tabletop painted in Resene Contessa makes the Tarhong Lemon plates and trays from Briscoes pop.  While Resene Contessa is from an older colour collection you can view a large swatch at your Resene ColorShop and it can still be tinted for you.  Or for a current alternative try Resene New York Pink from the Resene Multifinish collection.

Resene La Bamba is a racy orange red which evokes sunsets and tequila sunrises. Use this tropical hue as a backdrop for a festive feast that celebrates the flavours of summer.

Resene La Bamba goes well with colours you can savour such as deep burgundy Resene Avant Garde, juicy blueberry shade Resene Wanaka, leafy green Resene Amazon and fresh, crisp Resene White.

This merry berry breakfast, served on Simon Gault bone china dinnerware from Briscoes, works in harmony with Resene La Bamba.

When guests come to stay for the holidays make sure your colour scheme is as welcoming and hospitable as you are. Shades of blue are calming and evoke feelings of stability and trustworthiness. Resene Smalt Blue is a Georgian blend of green and blue. Soften this moody shade with natural colours and textures but caution your guests will never want to get up.

Resene Smalt Blue works well with natural sandy earthy shades such as Resene Rodeo Dust, Resene Haystack and Resene Hot Toddy and warm whites such as Resene Bianca. While Resene Smalt Blue is from an older colour collection you can view a large swatch at your Resene ColorShop and it can still be tinted for you.  Or for a current alternative try Resene Streetwise from the Resene Multifinish collection.

Amp up the comfort in guest bedrooms with Resene Smalt Blue walls paired with warm, natural bed linen such as the Fieldcrest London Duvet Set paired with a long wool lambskin rug, all from Briscoes. While Resene Smalt Blue is from an older colour collection you can view a large swatch at your Resene ColorShop and it can still be tinted for you.  Or for a current alternative try Resene Streetwise from the Resene Multifinish collection.
