5 purple upcycling ideas to support a good cause and get your home looking grape

24 Mar 2021

With Purple Day approaching on March 26th support a good cause and sprinkle a bit of purple through your home. Run by Epilepsy New Zealand, Purple Day raises awareness of epilepsy and lets people living with epilepsy know they are not alone. Buy any purple testpot during March at Resene owned ColorShops (NZ) and Resene will donate $1 to Epilepsy NZ. Here’s five fabulous ideas to get you started.

1. Love your lavender

These colourful distressed vases are painted in Resene Half Moonbeam, Resene Escape and Resene Melodic.

Bring a touch of nature to your home with these soft pastel vases. Colour match Resene paint with your favourite flowers for a fabulous addition to any side table or kitchen bar.

All you need for these distressed vases are some glass jars, masking tape, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer and your favourite lavender shade (we used Resene Melodic). You can find the full list of materials needed and instructions here

2. I lilac like that

Liven up dinnertime with this fun utensil caddy painted in Resene Lola and Resene Poet. Tin cans are perfect for upcycling. These cans are painted in Resene Moonbeam, Resene Perfume, Resene Fog and Resene Sonique.

Spice up your dining experience with this easy-to-make utensil caddy. Pretty in purple, upcycled tin cans and an old wooden serving board are transformed with Resene Lola and Resene Poet. Keep the fun going by adding flowers or colourful napkins into the mix. Keen to get painting? Find the full DIY instructions here

3. On the mauve

This striped wall uses subtle purple tones, while the shelves provide a sharp accent. From top to bottom, the stripes are in Resene Covert, Resene I Do, Resene Bona Fide, Resene Kookaburra and Resene Poet. The shelves are in Resene Wanaka.

Get snappy with these slick stripes in shades of purple and blue. Using masking tape during the painting process creates crisp, bold lines. Strong stripes create movement in a room and give it the perfect purple pop.  The shelves add an aspect of three dimensionality. Find out how to create this look here

4. Violet femme

Coffee filters and garden tape create these cute roses painted in Resene Lola, Resene Galliano and Resene Suzie Q.

This flower wall is the perfect accessory for your baby shower or bridal hen party and is a great backdrop for photographs. Using coffee filters and garden wire, you can create a purple paradise in your own home. Try it out here
