The calming qualities of nature-inspired bedrooms
Nothing quite beats having a cosy, stylish bedroom over the winter months. One that tempts you every time you walk past… It would probably say something like: “forget about the housework and jump in here with a hot cup of tea and a good book”.
There’s one inspiration you can pull from when designing a bedroom that’s sure to add comfort, harmony and style, and that’s nature. We are often drawn to these shades and patterns we see ‘out in the wild’ due to their beauty, organic shapes and symphony of colours.
Here are some bedroom designs using paints, stains and wallpapers to get you started on your bedroom makeover.

Aside from the inviting, earthy tones in this bedroom, the palm tree design offers a sense of ‘warm holiday escape’, perfect for when you’re a little over the cold, grey skies outside. The walls are painted in a warm base of Resene Quarter Drought, the headboard doubling as a shelf is stained in Resene Colorwood Bask and added pops of green in Cabbage Pont tie everything together.

This bedroom features modern, cool greys like Resene Concrete and Quarter Delta which pair well with Resene Botanica Wallpaper Collection 33955 used as a feature on the recessed wall. The whole room is themed around the striking grey, blue and white tones found within the delicate floral design, creating a harmonious, serene space.

Give your bedroom walls some added interest and depth as cosy as your blankets and bedding. This wall is painted in Resene Open Sesame with Resene FX Paint Effects Medium mixed with Resene Foundation applied over the top. The textured effect helps to break up the all-neutral room and hints to the organic patterns we see in things like earth, rocks, clay and trees. The floor is stained in Resene Colorwood Breathe Easy, a light stain that pairs well with the brightness and warmth in the room.

This bedroom has a calm coastal feel thanks to the colour combination and natural materials like timber, wicker and greenery. The charcoal and bronze palette in Resene Nomade Wallpaper Collection M619-05 adds a more refined and sophisticated touch to your usual light and relaxed coastal style while creating a cocooning and inviting space.

Green is an extremely calming hue, ideal for bedrooms and places of rest. In this space, greens are layered through the room in furniture, textiles, and Resene Michalsky Wallpaper Collection 399823 which adds some extra flora and fauna. The white tones help to break up the green, but this bedroom would also look lovely with some pops of earthy clay tones and warm wood stains on timber floors and furniture.
