As Resene celebrates 80 years of colour and innovation, one of its greatest benefits to clients and customers alike, lies in the breadth of experience of its staff, such as Raychel Pierson, State Manager Victoria, who has been with Resene for 30 years.
“During my three decades at Resene, I’ve had the privilege of working across nearly every sales channel we offer,” says Raychel.
“Starting on the shop floor gave me a deep appreciation for our customers – from homeowners tackling their first renovation to experienced specifiers delivering complex commercial projects. That end-to-end understanding of our business allows me to support our teams and clients with both practical knowledge and strategic insight.”
Raychel says the diversity of her roles at Resene has meant she has gained true insight into the complexities around delivering projects at every scale.
“I work closely with our retail teams, trade customers, architects, designers and mural artists to ensure they receive the right advice, product solutions and colour support for their projects.”
Working with such a varied cross section of professionals and artists over the years must have resulted in Raychel forming a ‘favourite’ project type to work on.
“Mural projects are a particular passion of mine, and I feel lucky to be able to support creativity and artistry through the use of Resene products and seeing how colour can completely transform a space and the way people feel within it.

Raychel says this mural by artist and muralist Juzpop, is one of her favourite works and perfectly exemplifies the relationship between Resene and artists and curators across Melbourne and Australia. Image courtesy of Juzpop.
“Regardless of type, the most rewarding projects are always those where collaboration is key – where our teams, designers and trades work together to solve challenges and deliver something truly special.
From the start, Resene has focused on finding solutions to industry requirements and in doing so, has managed to lead the way in several key areas – not least of which is its commitment to sustainability and producing products that have set the standard.
“Over the years, I’ve seen several real innovations shift the industry. The ongoing evolution of low-VOC and waterborne technology has been a major turning point, allowing us to deliver high-performance coatings with reduced environmental impact. Resene’s leadership in environmental responsibility has set a strong benchmark in the industry. Similarly, advancements in specialist finishes and protective coatings have also been game changers, giving specifiers confidence that they can achieve both durability and design excellence. Resene’s waterborne enamels for broadwalls were a real game changer for us.

“As for quiet achievers, preparation products, are often the true heroes behind a flawless result and dramatically improve durability saving time and cost in the long run. Shoutout to QuickDry and Smooth Surface Sealer, just to name two!”
With more than 6000 colour swatches to choose from, deciding on a favourite may sound like an impossible task. That said, is there a single colour or colour range that Raychel prefers?
“One of the things I love most about working with Resene is the depth and diversity of our colour range. Colours that stand the test of time tend to resonate with me most, reflecting both experience and enduring style – Resene Black White is a staple and Resene Yucca is a standout.”
