12 Feb 2024
Each year Resene is approached by a wide variety of groups creating murals. With most of this dedicated effort receiving only local community attention, Resene runs a Resene Mural Masterpieces Competition each year so that we can all enjoy the works that are created, no matter where they are. There is $7000 worth of prizes to be won.
How to enter:
Simply register your details for free online and you'll receive an entry pack containing all the information you'll need to get started.
There are four classes of entry:
- Best School Mural – primary and secondary
- Best Community Mural
- Best Professional Mural
- Best Mural Design
Entry is open to all ages and all mural types, so get your creative juices and paintbrushes fired up. Entries must be for murals in Australia or New Zealand using Resene paints. If you are unable to finish your mural in time for the closing date in the year you have entered, you are welcome to enter the mural using the entry form you have as soon as it is ready and we will include it in the next round of judging.
Above and main image: Winner of Best Professional Mural 2023, Bob Byrne Memorial Park, completed by Brigita Mana Bell. Brigita was asked to paint this mural and tell the story of Taupiri’s post-colonial history as recounted by the local marae. The stories were given to Brigita and from there the mural was designed and painted. The mural depicts the historical Kaitotehe School located in Taupiri. When it was around (1849 onwards), it became the first school in New Zealand that accepted both Máori and Pakeha students. The mural also depicts the rich flora and fauna of Taupiri.
