A helping hand for heritage

04 Aug 2016

The word museum so often evokes images of imposing edifices of beautifully curated displays. But in many towns throughout the country, there are more humble museums with lovingly created collections that survive on pure passion and with limited funds.

Some are community projects with hidden treasures, others are quirky and haphazard, and others are the product of just one person’s vision. Now, some of these are receiving a helping hand via a new TV series, Heritage Rescue.

Hosted by Brigid Gallagher, who has more than 20 years experience working in museums and archaeology, the series visits seven museums and heritage sites, from Rangitoto Island to Cromwell, discovering the fascinating stories behind the artifacts and creating new exhibits.

Proudly supported by Resene, which is celebrating its own 70th birthday this year, Heritage Rescue screens on Choice TV from this Sunday, August 7, at 7.30pm.

We’ll go along with Brigid and her team each week, and update you on their heritage adventures.
