This Māpua home could be all yours!

19 Nov 2025

Situated on the gorgeous Tasman Bay, just half an hour from Nelson’s city centre, Māpua is a vibrant village that’s full of character. It’s the perfect location for a Heart Foundation Home Lottery first-prize property, and you could have a chance to experience everything this hidden gem has to offer for as little as $15.

Just five minutes by car to the beach, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is perfect for full-time residency or a summer retreat. Sandy neutrals with pops of blue and green bring the seaside indoors, providing tranquillity and versatility for its lucky new owners.

Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager, has this to say about the area: “Māpua has all the comfort and serenity of your favourite New Zealand holiday towns, paired with the convenience of Nelson less than a half-hour drive down the road. Whether you’re looking for everyday necessities, like good schools and shopping complexes, or vacation staples, like stunning beaches, it’s all there for you.”

This home features a spacious open plan living, kitchen and dining area, ideal for entertaining friends and family. And when you’re nestled in one of the sunniest parts of New Zealand, you’ll be sure to have eager guests! Plus, sliding doors lead to a patio and wrap-around garden, perfect for enjoying balmy summer evenings.

Alongside Liz, and the team at Jennian Nelson Bays, Taryn and Dino from Hubbers Flooring & Soft Furnishings helped beautify this property, both inside and out, using Resene paints and finishes. Here’s what they had to share about the project.

What was your design brief?

“What we wanted to achieve was a calm and transcendent feel in both the interior and exterior that emulated the natural surroundings of the home whilst also maintaining a point of difference from the neighbouring properties,” says Dino.

What colours did you choose?

“For the exterior Rockcote, we selected Resene Titania and the James Hardie Oblique Resene Lichen. The soft but warm neutralised grey of Resene Titania used in conjunction with olive brown of Resene Lichen allowed us to nail the design brief by re-imagining the pebbled coastlines of the area and deep greenery of the home’s surroundings,” says Taryn. “The interior walls were painted with Resene Rice Cake, a sharp warm white, and Resene Double Alabaster to the ceilings and doors in contrast for a fresh look and feel. These warm neutral interior colours provide an agreeable base to build off for dressing and accessorising.”

What was the biggest challenge for this project?

“We knew right from the start that for the exterior scheme that we wanted to use colour but to not be too bold, as it needed to appeal to a wide range of Heart Foundation Home Lottery supporters,” Dino says. “By having the option to use Resene Lichen, which correlates to the COLORSTEEL® Lichen corrugated roofing, we were able to use colour consistently without the design elements feeling disconnected from one another.”

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

Taryn says, “We absolutely love the architecture and design elements incorporated in the exterior of the home, the use of different exterior cladding materials highlighted by Resene paint makes this a showstopping home and one that we will always remember being a part of.”
