This first-prize home offers relaxed country living, without sacrificing city perks

The Heart Foundation Lottery is excited to present its debut first-prize home in the Auckland region. Located in the community of Glenbrook, this fully furnished, modern, four-bedroom property decorated in Resene paints is yours to try to win for as little as a $15 ticket.

Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager for the Heart Foundation, is thrilled to be offering a home in such an up-and-coming area of Auckland.

“Since we began the Heart Foundation Lottery nearly 30 years ago, we had yet to have a first-prize home in Auckland,” explains Liz. “So, we’re very proud to be able to offer this lovely property in Lottery No. 143.”

Glenbrook boasts an idyllic country backdrop with an easy drive to the motorway (State Highway 1) and offers a relaxed lifestyle without having to give up the cosmopolitan conveniences. For those currently living or working in Auckland, this property is an ideal base for hybrid working or as a rural weekend retreat!

This modern kitchen is painted in a timeless white, Resene Sea Fog, with a stunning feature wall in Resene Porter.

This home works well for families of all sizes with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and two living spaces. Decorated with natural timber accents and Resene colours, and stylishly furnished, it certainly looks the part.

We spoke to Michelle Costello, general manager of Jennian Homes Franklin, about the inspiration behind this gorgeous build.

What was your design brief for this home?

“The brief was to reflect the cool and calm nature of the peninsular with the sea coming and going from the estuary. Kahawai Point is a new community with a mix of new families, professionals and lifestylers all wanting a new start by the sea, in a relaxing and invigorating environment. We wanted to incorporate this into a home that would suit anyone wanting to enjoy the seaside life. We also wanted the home to be a haven away from the bustle of the city for those that might like to make this a holiday destination.”

The neutral interior, painted in Resene Sea Fog, allows for pops of colour to come through in décor and furniture in this stunning living room.

What colours did you choose to best reflect this?

“We chose Resene Sea Fog for all the interior spaces which provides a uniformity of colour to better reflect the outside views and not detract from them. We painted the feature colour wall in the kitchen with Resene Porter to match the exterior weatherboards and help bring the outside in. Resene Porter reflects the moodiness of the ocean.”

What was the biggest challenge you faced during this project?

“The biggest challenge was creating an interior that did not detract from the exterior vista. We wanted to portray a feeling of simplicity, so that the home could feel like an escape from the normality and busyness of life. Bringing the exterior darker colour inside to create a sense of connection was a deliberate move. Using the timber-look flooring inside gives the home an airy openness that feels beachy and organic but boasts the easy care and endurance.”

This bedroom is bright and fresh, painted in Resene Sea Fog. The neutral shade creates a blank canvas for the new owners possessions to shine.

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

“The community at Kahawai Point enjoys the calm and serene feel of the coast. We loved to create something that when you walk in gives you that feeling of relaxation and release – that was our design focus. We imagine some special family time enjoying the outdoor living and multiple living spaces.”

In partnership with its long-time key supporter, Jennian Homes, the Heart Foundation Lottery offers the life-changing first prize of a fully furnished home seven times each year.

Lottery homes are built in lifestyle destinations throughout New Zealand and finished in Resene paints and stains.

The view from the living room shows a tranquil and quiet space where nature lovers will be right at home. The neutral walls in Resene Sea Fog allow for the surrounding landscape to shine through.

You can support the Heart Foundation Lottery by purchasing tickets at heartlottery.org.nz. Funds raised from the Lottery go towards life-saving heart research and heart disease prevention programmes, keeping New Zealand families together for longer.

The exterior of this stunning home is painted in Resene Porter, a dark and moody colour that is  striking against the natural environment around the home.

Top tip: For a beachy vibe at your place use Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen or Resene Lumbersider Matt on your exterior timber.  These lower sheen finishes will protect the surface while helping to diffuse the light to minimise glare.
