“Kinloch is for those who love the lake, but not so much the crowds,” says Kevin Tregunno, Lottery Programme Manager. “It really is a gem of a spot. It has almost everything that Taupō has to offer, and for anything else, it’s just a short drive away.”

Inspired by its prime position just minutes from the shore, Trace decorated the home using Resene colours and finishes. Here’s what she has to say about the project:

What was your design brief?

I was tasked with creating a warm welcoming home that feels calm and relaxed, easy to live in while still having a modern feel. It also had to appeal to a variety of New Zealanders, since any of the Heart Foundation Home Lottery supporters could soon win it.

What colours did you choose?

The colour palette was influenced by the natural surrounding-soft earth tones, stone greys and deep blues inspired by the water and landscape around the lake. As a base, I used Resene Eighth Truffle on all the ceilings and trims, with the slightly richer Quarter Truffle on the walls. To accent this, I used Boulder on feature walls in both the open-plan kitchen/living area and the master bedroom. 

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

My favourite aspect of this design is the warmth and personality in the home, with the soft furnishings and artwork that incorporate the strong, deep blues of Lake Taupō. By keeping it within the natural colour scheme of its environment, I was able to use these accents to add richness, without overpowering the softer palette.
