01 Oct 2025
Situated less than ten minutes by car from the beach, this architecturally inspired, Resene decorated, first-prize property in the Heart Foundation Home Lottery could soon be yours.
Return to the comfort of this brand-new Jennian home in Whakatāne after a day of exploring the Bay of Plenty. Fully furnished, this property is low-maintenance and ready to move into – offering you a relaxed lifestyle from the get-go!
Inside this beautiful home, Resene Wan White graces the walls, grounded by the warm timber flooring.
“Whakatāne is a great base to enjoy a range of holiday hotspots,” says Liz Halpin, Heart Foundation Lottery Operations Manager. “Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and Rotorua are all less than 100 kilometres away, perfect for day trips. Plus, Whakatāne itself is a well-established township, with plenty of everyday amenities, schools and boutique stores.”
This amazing first-prize home is also close to Ōhope Beach, which was crowned New Zealand’s best family beach in 2024. It features three bedrooms, two bathrooms and comes fully furnished. The stylish furniture and artwork have been hand-selected by Jennifer King of Jennifer by Design.
On the exterior, Resene Black creates a stunning contrast to the vertical timber panelling and landscaped yard.
Nicola Doherty, New Home Consultant from Jennian Homes Whakatāne, helped bring this property to life using Resene paints and finishes. Here’s what she had to say about her design process.
What was your design brief?
“The brief was to create a contemporary Barn Style design with a bold and commanding presence – something that would stand out from the other homes in the subdivision but still appeal to the breadth of New Zealanders who support the Heart Foundation Home Lottery.”
What colours did you choose?
“Resene Black was selected for the exterior Linea and Stria cladding, which provided a striking contrast to the vertical Cedar. Internally, Resene Wan White was used throughout to establish a modern yet timeless aesthetic which complemented the warm tones of the laminate flooring.”
Earthy tones in décor and linen offer a calming environment in this bedroom. The walls are painted in Resene Wan White.
The bathroom is a stylish retreat with walls and ceiling painted in Resene Wan White, complementing the timber flooring and tiles.
What was the biggest challenge for this project?
“The biggest challenge was choosing furniture and accessories that achieved the look, without exceeding the budget. We wanted to create a comfortable, stylish home that anyone would love to call their own – without being too extravagant.”
What was your favourite aspect of the design?
“My favourite aspect was the creative freedom it offered – having the opportunity to design a bold modern statement with the exterior while contrasting the inside with soft natural tones and textures.”
Relax in the living room amongst cosy furniture and décor with walls and ceiling in the charming Resene Wan White.
In partnership with its major sponsor, Jennian Homes, the Heart Foundation Home Lottery offers the life-changing first prize of a fully furnished home seven times each year.
