Recycle soft plastics from anywhere in NZ: Soft plastic courier bags launch

It’s good news for the planet-conscious this week, soon you’ll be able to buy recyclable soft plastic NZ Post bags. Soft Plastic Recycling Scheme has announced a three-month pilot programme with NZ Post, which will allow you to buy a post bag which will allow people across New Zealand to post their soft plastic to be recycled.

The bags are available from participating NZ Post, The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery and a selection of New World stores.

“New Zealanders have been asking us for some time about whether they can post their soft plastics, so we are delighted to launch this service,” says Soft Plastic Recycling Scheme Manager Lyn Mayes.

“Filled bags can either be dropped off at NZ Post shops or people can arrange a courier pick up service. This opens up soft plastic recycling to communities who do not have access to a soft plastic recycling bin, or those people who are unable to get to a local store to drop off their recycling. The bags are 400*440mm in size and cost $7 each.”

The courier bags can be used to post the plastic wrap on the outside of habitat by Resene magazine or selected Resene ColorShops around the country also currently accept soft plastic recycling: Resene ColorShop in Lichfield Street Christchurch, Resene ColorShop in Wairau Park already accept soft plastics, and Resene ColorShop Thorndon Quay (Wellington) will be recycling soft plastics from May 2022.

habitat’s current wrap is recyclable and can be recycled with other soft plastics. If there is no collection point near you, take it in to your local Resene ColorShop and we will recycle it for you.
