Fall in love with picture-perfect Napier, where pastel buildings, palm-lined promenades and stunning coastal views create an irresistible lifestyle. It’s no surprise the Heart Foundation Home Lottery is offering a $1.1 million prize home here in Lottery No. 160.
Located just minutes from Hawke’s Bay’s favourite beaches, this brand-new three-bedroom Jennian home in the Art Deco capital of the world could be yours for as little as one $15 ticket.
The home features a bright open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, flowing out to two covered decks ideal for entertaining year-round. It is a shining example of how carefully chosen Resene paint colours can define the look, feel and longevity of a home.
Colour and materials were selected by Vikki Svensson of Jennian Homes Hawkes Bay, and the styling is by Trace Beaumont-Orr of Decor Design, Taupō.

Designing with broad appeal and timeless colour
From the outset, the design brief was centred on creating a home that felt generous, welcoming and universally appealing, a goal where Resene’s neutral range played a key role.
“The design brief was to create a modest 3-bedroom home that felt open, light and inviting – with strong street appeal and instant charm,” says Vikki. “The focus was on making smart, efficient use of space to ensure the home felt larger than its footprint, without compromising on functionality.”
To support this, Vikki selected Resene Half Concrete as the primary interior colour, using it consistently throughout the home.
“Resene Half Concrete was used for its soft, neutral tone, creating a clean and timeless backdrop,” she explains. “With a project like this, where the end user is unknown, it was important to strike the right balance between character and broad appeal.”
The result is a light-filled interior that feels contemporary yet enduring – an ideal canvas for future homeowners.

Subtle colour to add depth and calm
While continuity was key, Vikki introduced a gentle variation in the master bedroom to create a sense of retreat.
“In the master bedroom, I introduced Resene Secrets – a gentle green-grey to add a subtle layer of personality while keeping the space serene and versatile.”
This soft tonal shift demonstrates how Resene colours can be layered to add interest without overwhelming a space, enhancing mood while remaining adaptable.

Exterior impact through texture and tone
Resene colours also play a starring role on the exterior, working in harmony with contrasting materials to deliver strong street appeal.
“For the exterior, I focused on creating a striking contrast of textures and tones,” says Vikki. “The combination of natural cedar, Accoya Grey, and James Hardie Oblique weatherboard painted in Resene Half Concrete showcases both visual impact and craftsmanship – giving the home strong street appeal with a refined, modern edge.”

Styling that brings the Resene palette to life
With the Resene colour story established, Trace Beaumont-Orr layered furnishings and décor to add warmth, energy and personality.
“My colour scheme was inspired by a new fabric release by Warwick with a vibey pink stripe that started the mood of the house,” Trace says.
“From there I brought in dusky pinks and warm rusts in the furnishings and art to make it a modern fun interior. The play on bright art and lamps pulled the interior together.”
In the bedrooms, bold textiles stand out while still sitting comfortably against the calm Resene walls.
“The bedding was also a play on fun bright fabrics that made the bedrooms pop.”

A cohesive home built on Resene colour
For Vikki, seeing the Resene palette work seamlessly across architecture and interiors was the highlight of the project.
“Watching the cohesion between the exterior and interior take shape and seeing the home styled in a way that truly enhances its character, was incredibly rewarding.”
This gorgeous property demonstrates how Resene Half Concrete and Resene Secrets can be used with confidence to create a home that feels modern, inviting and timeless – a versatile foundation that allows colour, texture and personality to shine.
