Clean up week is nearly here
08 Sep 2022
Get your gloves and bucket ready, Clean Up Week is nearly here. New Zealand’s largest clean up event is organised by Keep New Zealand Beautiful and encourages schools groups businesses, community groups and families to collect litter in their local area.
The event runs from 17- 23 September, kicking off on World Clean Up Day on September 17 and groups can register online to take part. Last year more than 10,000 volunteers took part collecting nearly 300 tonnes of litter (that’s enough to cover 2589 rugby fields!).
Volunteers are encouraged to create their own reusable clean up kits with buckets and gardening gloves to pick up rubbish. At the end of the event, participants can register their litter in Keep New Zealand Beautiful’s citizen science portals Upstream Battle and Backyard Battle. These programmes provide some of the data for the National Litter Audit.
By taking part in Clean Up Week, you'll not only be helping to Keep New Zealand Beautiful, but you'll also have the opportunity to win one of two Ultimate Ears BOOM 3 speakers by submitting your five favourite clean up event photos and Evaluation Form before 17 October 2022. Plus, post a photo or short video to the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Padlet board and go in the draw to win another cool prize too!
Register online before September 23 www.knzb.org.nz/programmes/clean-new-zealand-beautiful/clean-up-week
