The lively heart of Mercury Bay, Whitianga is the centre of one of New Zealand’s favourite natural playgrounds. Win this fabulous first-prize home and it’s all yours to explore!
With an abundance of natural light and an eastern-facing kitchen/living/dining area, this first-prize home is perfect for enjoying your morning beverage while watching the sun rise. Whitianga’s beauty is brought into the home itself, thanks to Jaimee Price of Jennian Homes Hauraki Coromandel.
“Whitianga is one of our most popular Heart Foundation Home Lottery locations,” explains Kevin Tregunno, Programme Lead. “It’s no surprise, given its proximity to incredible beaches and nature trails, while being a well-established town with all the essential amenities one might need.”
She and her team took the lead on colour design, furnishing and decor – and here’s what she has to say about the project:

What was your design brief?
The brief for Lottery Home No. 163 was to create a warm, contemporary coastal home that felt welcoming, calm and highly livable for a wide range of future homeowners. The goal was to balance a clean, modern aesthetic with natural textures and tones that reflect the surrounding Whitianga environment.

What colours did you choose?
On the exterior, Resene Double Alabaster to contrast with Double Foundry - chosen for a clean look and the way it looks against the timber elements. Inside, a soft, layered palette of Alabaster, Albescent White and Foundry for the feature walls provides depth while keeping the interior bright and inviting.

What was your favourite aspect of the design?
My favourite aspect was bringing together both the exterior colour palette and the full interior design to create a consistent feel throughout the home. Having control of both sides meant I could ensure every space connected visually, from the way the exterior sits against the timber, to the soft interior neutrals and the grounding effect of the Foundry feature walls. That harmony between inside and out truly captures the relaxed, coastal feel we set out to achieve.
