Maree brings sparkle to show home design

You may not expect to be inspired by a show home – they are meant to appeal to a broad market, and can be bland as a result. But this design by Maree Hynes Interior blows that assumption right out of the water.

Provided with a classic contemporary home by Jennian Homes Timaru, Maree and her team decided to style the house with an eclectic global vibe and stunning Resene colours.? She tells us more.

What was the client’s brief and how do your design and colour choices respond to that?

We were privileged to be given the creative freedom to style the home as we saw fit. Because this is a show home, the majority of the colours we used were of a neutral palette which appeals to a wide range of perspective buyers.

We introduced layers of textures to add needed depth and create a warm inviting feeling. We also added a striking wallpaper to great effect.

What was your overall design philosophy?

At Maree Hynes Interiors, it's our design philosophy to have a broad approach to interior styling. We are known locally for our creative mix of homewares and furniture. I think out of the box when it comes to what design really is.

For styling this home we were influenced by the beautiful rugs, homewares and textiles at our disposal, making the most of colour, texture and pattern.

What Resene colours and products were used, and what inspired those choices?

We worked with the standard existing Jennian show home colour palette, with the majority of the interior walls painted in Resene Triple Sea Fog. And in the separate lounge Resene Half Friar Grey gives a needed contrast between the areas.

To develop a moody feeling Resene Shark was chosen for the master bedroom giving a hit of depth to the space. The bedroom wallpaper was inspired by the surrounding rural setting really bringing the feeling of the outdoors inside.

What part of the design are you happiest with?

I'm happiest with the master bedroom. Working with the deep charcoal colour already in place, I paired a bold Resene Wallpaper Collection wallpaper available at Resene ColorShops (code E358000). It’s a dark black background floral design with hits of mustards and jewel tones. Because the rest of the home is quite neutral we really wanted the master bedroom to be an unexpected surprise.

What was the biggest design challenge for this project?

Every project has a challenge, and this was no exception. I was constantly aware of the need to cater to everyone’s taste while being true to my design style. I wanted to make a statement and also appeal to as many prospective buyers. And of course, to style an amazing show home for my clients Jennian Homes Timaru.

Is there anyone else you would like mentioned?

As usual my team were there throughout the entire process. Also my dedicated family who are always there when we need them.
