Kid’s bedrooms revealed on Three’s The Block NZ

Another exciting week on Three’s The Block NZ saw the teams create four colourful kid’s bedrooms. Bold use of the colours Resene Bounty and Resene Sea Fog saw one team score a whopping 18/20 from the judges. Budgets were tight this week, with the teams only allocated $10,000 to renovate and decorate their current spaces.

With less than 24-hours to room reveal, The Block NZ site was still humming. Carpet was going down, and this time Maree had her fingers and toes crossed to be the first team in line to get their carpet laid. It’s tools down and the teams head into judging.

We take a closer look at the four kid’s bedrooms this week:

Chloe & Ben's Kid's Bedroom

Final Score: 18/20

It was Chloe & Ben who took out the win this week, having created a restful and stunning teen’s bedroom with Resene Bounty and Resene Sea Fog. The judges commented that their use of Resene colours was brilliant, and it was a very considered space design-wise, with plenty of storage. Resene Bounty was the perfect shade of blue, youthful, but mature enough to grow with a teen.

Quinn & Ben's Kid's Bedroom

Final Score: 15.5/20

A feature wall stuns in Quinn & Ben’s kid’s bedroom. Resene Wax Flower and Resene Just Dance create the mountain effect, with Resene Black White on the ceiling, opposite walls and trims. Image: as seen on The Block NZ.

Quinn & Ben’s kid’s bedroom featured an incredibly bold Resene feature wall, depicting mountains in warm hues painted in Resene Wax Flower and Resene Just Dance, with Resene Black White on the ceiling, opposite walls and trims.

The judges liked that the carpet had changed, and they loved the painted detail on the wall, admiring how it tied together their colour palette. They commended them for being brave, and suggested they could have even been bolder and extended either Resene Wax Flower or Resene Just Dance across another wall.

Maree & James’s Kid’s Bedroom

Final Score: 15/20

Maree & James’s kid’s bedroom features Resene Despacito (top of wall), Resene Shabby Chic (lower half of wall) and Resene Half Bianca on the ceiling, doors and trims. Image: as seen on The Block NZ.

Maree & James’s wall glows pink, split with use of the beautiful and soft Resene Shabby Chic and Resene Despacito. Judge Jason comments on how lovely the two-tone Resene colour palette is, how it offers a nurturing feel and gives the room a point of difference. Overall, the judges feel as though they have stepped it up and presented a beautifully finished room.

Stacy & Adam’s Kid’s Bedroom

Final Score: 12.5/20

Stacy & Adam's kid’s bedroom features Resene Quarter Bianca and Resene Eighth Biscotti on the walls, with Resene Half Duck Egg Blue and Resene Wallpaper Collection 35980-1. Image: as seen on The Block NZ.

Perhaps the biggest incorporation of Resene colour and creativity came this week from Stacy & Adam. The pair used Resene Quarter Bianca and Resene Eighth Biscotti on the walls, Resene Half Duck Egg Blue on their window seat and the flamingo-dotted Resene Wallpaper Collection 35980-1.

Much to their surprise, Jason likes the fun wallpaper and the calming colour palette, but he says overall he felt the room lacked clear direction. The flooring is a little dark, and their use of Resene Half Duck Egg Blue isn’t cohesive enough with the wallpaper and pink furnishings.

Top tip: Kids’ bedrooms come in for a lot of wear and tear so it’s best to use hardwearing finishes like Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen on walls and Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne on trims, which are easy to wipe clean. If you decide to go for a darker colour, Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen can also be used for a blackboard wall, or you can use Resene FX Blackboard Paint or Resene FX Chalkboard Paint to create an interactive writing space.  For those who prefer to avoid chalk dust, use Resene FX Write-on Wall Paint over your Resene paint finish to create a handy coloured whiteboard – great for kids to write and draw on then rub off and start writing and drawing all over again when they wish.
