The homes you loved in 2016

Every year, we like to look back and see what house tours really hit home – pardon the pun – with our readers. Apart from them all being painted in Resene, their stories are often quite different from the last. These are homes that are loved and individual to each home owner, some with the help of architects and designers, others purely their own vision. Here's a look at the top five stories of 2016.

Jackie and Jeremy’s stunning upcycled bach

holiday house, bach, beach house, feature wall, stripes

This totally refurbished seaside bach must have really struck a chord and was the most read house tour for the year. What once was a dark, dingy timber-lined interior is now refreshed in Resene Sea Fog and a stunning striped feature wall. See more here

Debbie gets fearless with colour

kitchen, white, floral, wallpaper, bedroom, organe, aqua, blue, paint ideas

Hot on the heels is Debbie Omond's colour-filled family home. This interior designer isn't shy of colour and has a flair for using it, from bright floral wallpaper to bedrooms painted in orange, aqua and deep inky blue. See more here

Brooke’s garden design goes with the flow

exterior, garden, red, front door

Set in scenic Crown Terrace near Queenstown, the owners of this property wanted to incorporate elements of the surrounding area into their house and garden design. The designers have done an exquisite job – using Resene paint, the colour scheme is warm and subdued, perfect for the location. See more here.

Hayley and Darryl find peace with white

Kitset cottage, kitset house, white, paint ideas, black & white

Hayley and Darryl's home is a 1980s kitset cottage, transformed by painting it top to toe in Resene Black White (with accents of Resene Bokara Grey). The styling is balanced just right so that there's nothing boring about their monochromatic colour scheme, with great art and clever additions – including a little reading nook that you'll love. Rachel and Paul’s global getaway

moody coloursm bedrooms, paint ideas

Interior designer Rachel says neutral doesn't have to be boring. That's certainly true of her family's stunning, sun-filled home. It's perfectly balanced between Resene Thorndon Cream in the living areas, with beautiful, moody colours in the bedrooms... and has a generous deck that many will envy. See more here.
