Three’s The Block NZ recap: presenting the patios

23 Aug 2018

Last week, the teams got painting and paving to prepare for the latest room reveal – the patio. Once again, each team presented a space that was unique to them – some modern and minimalist, some boho and relaxed – but all in all gorgeous, liveable outdoor areas. Here are the room reveals.

Amy & Stu (Winner)
House 4:

Amy and Stu played with contrasting colours for their patio and it paid off, with the team winning last week’s room reveal.

They chose charcoal Resene Bokara Grey for the walls, pairing with pavers in a lighter shade. The addition of an upcycled yellow table and bench seats brings a bolt of colour and character to the area. The paving choice was a good one, adding lightness to contrast the dark brick. The classic design also added interest.

The judges felt that the team made great use of the space – it felt multi-purpose and adult. Pushing the table to the side was clever, as it gave the space an eating area as well as a place to relax in the outdoor Scandi-style rocking chairs. And a barbecue, in-built speakers and dimmable light made it a proper entertaining space.

Overall, it was a great space that made the judges feel happy.

Claire & Agni
House 1:

For their space, Claire and Agni created a cosy and playful patio, which the judges thought was inviting, yet still felt grand – and they loved the idea of using the glass wall as a privacy element. Walls painted in Resene Bokara Grey provided a striking frame.

Tony was also pleased that the team had brought so much nature into the space and there was some scale to their future plans. It was great to see the outdoor heating and speakers, perfect for entertaining.

Ben & Tom
House 2:

Ben and Tom really thought about the functionality of their space, with a level entry and the option to close off the space with screens – this will be a big selling point.

Tony said the materiality was great and it felt like a high-quality space, with walls painted in Resene Half Sea Fog. Kristina said it was nice to see the styling is still improving.

They also thought the lighting choices were great and the lighting above the table was good. The uplights in the decking added some nice detail to the space.

Overall, the patio space created was functional, durable and protective from elements.

Chlo & Em
House 3:

Painted in Resene Sea Fog and elegantly styled, the judges first impression of Chlo and Em’s space was that it was alluring and welcoming.

Kristina really liked the choice of outdoor furniture, especially the chairs which had a timeless style. It was great to see some colour with the throws chosen, as well as a beautifully dressed table.

The statement light was a real hero piece and it was nice to see a natural material in the room. A really nice, beautifully styled room.
