Setting the mood in your home

21 Jun 2018

It’s no secret that colour plays a huge part in setting the mood in any home – but what are the latest colours that stylists are turning to create these moods? Louise Hilsz, style director of Beauty EQ, has taken four trending colour ways and shows how applying these to your walls and floors can transform a space. Her advice is to invest in elegant, versatile furniture that allows you to change up the paint colour as the years, and trends, go by.

Earthy tones are popular and with wooden flooring, like this Swiss Sync Chrome Zermat Oak laminate from Carpet Court, they bring a warm feel to this living room. Louise suggests adding a textured floor rug and scented candles for a truly inviting living space. The walls are painted in Resene Corvette.

Purple is the colour of the moment and makes a bold statement, as you can see in this living room painted in Resene Boogie Wonderland. Go bold with other accessories in jewel tones, such as emerald, turquoise and orange. The flooring is Scandia Ringsted vinyl planks from Carpet Court.

Navy walls are another way to bring in a trending colour, such as this living room painted in Resene Astronaut. Keep it lush with a deep, rich grey carpet (West Haven Sky Walker carpet from Carpet Court) and metallic accessories.

If you’re looking for a softer look, go for dusky pastels such as Resene Comfort Zone in this living room. Louise suggests pairing with soft pink furnishings and fluffy wool carpets (Nordic Seaport carpet from Carpet Court) and cushions.
