Reader roundup: A mural with a story, a media room makeover and inspirational messages

20 Apr 2023

Our readers have been busy once again! This month we see schools reusing Resene buckets for fun purposes and murals painted to support mental health, an exterior house colour that is still loved after 20 years, and a dining room refresh that blends with its natural surroundings. We love to see how creative you get with Resene paints and products, and sharing your handiworks to give inspiration to others brings us so much joy.

A school in Auckland has shown their support to mental health awareness by painting murals on their bathroom doors for students to see. As well as colourful Resene paints, these murals relay uplifting and inspirational messages such as “grow through what you go through” and “everything comes in waves, just keep swimming” - a reminder that we are strong and have people around us who support us.

Steve and Karin have loved their home’s exterior since they first renovated 20 years ago. Falling in love with two bright and beautiful shades, they are still as striking today as they were then.

“When we first renovated our home in 2003 we chose to paint it in two Resene colours – Resene Raspberry and Resene Revolver,” Steve says. “We still love the combination today and doubt we will ever change the colours.”

Our reader Jean was not in love with the orange that originally covered the wall behind her TV, so she sought the help of a Resene Colour Expert who could give her some tips. Media rooms suit moody dark colours - especially on one wall - this creates a cinematic ambience, so Resene Green Meets Blue was the choice for Jean, as well as Resene Twilight Zone for the shelving to help them blend with the TV. The colour was also extended out past the shelving to anchor the wall and create a cinematic vibe in the room. Jean loves the new colour!

Janet from Lower Hutt decided her repaint her dining room, and it looks fabulous, tying in with the green landscape beyond the window. She used Resene Alabaster, a timeless white, for the trims, and Resene Stone Age for the walls, a complex light olive beige. The polished wooden flooring looks striking against her chosen colours.

The Strath Taieri Historical Society have painted a story telling mural for the Middlemarch Museum in Dunedin. The social history of this farming community is illustrated with Resene paints through an eclectic collection and the recreation of scenes from the past at Middlemarch Museum, and the mural reflects all that it has to offer. If you’re in the area, you visit them at 5 Aberafon Street, Middlemarch, or online: www.middlemarch.nz/history/museum.html

If you’ve got old paint buckets, don’t throw them out! Reuse them in any way you can. Resene donates free buckets to schools to use for everything from drums and sports gear, and in this case, carrying fruit. Mt Cook School in Wellington have got creative with theirs, and they have also had a fun makeover.

“We recently ordered some buckets for school to help carry our fruit to classes and to help keep the school tidy,” Delia from Mt Cook School says. “We stickered them up and rolled them out. Thank you Resene for the best buckets in town!”
