A recycling mural in bold and brilliant colours for Hastings

19 Jan 2022

When Hastings District Council took the title of New Zealand’s Most Beautiful City and the Supreme Award at the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Awards the prize was a Resene-sponsored mural.

The call was put out to artists to submit designs promoting saving resources from going to landfill by reducing, repairing and reusing. The winner, Stan Mans, was chosen by a panel in September and Stan finished the mural just before Christmas. The result is a colourful panorama bringing the journey of waste to life.

The mural marks the start of a long-term project to change the Henderson Road Refuse Transfer Station, known as ‘The Dump’, into a Resource Recovery Centre where materials are diverted from landfill, upcycled, fixed and recycled.

“This project is close to my heart doing something with daily waste,” Stan told the Hastings District Council“

It brings a lot of colour to the transfer station and I’m really happy with the result,” says Stan.
