After

Engaged couple Danny and Suzanne bought his family home from his parents four years ago to live in with their two children. Since then the 1970s ranch-style home, which Danny had lived in since he was 9 with his five siblings, has taken a few knocks and is in need of some TLC. Though the couple have started to do some repairs they now want to get the home wedding-ready, and give themselves a boost to continue the renovation.

Outside designer Dan Mackay accepted the challenge of making the backyard ready to host the couple’s wedding by removing the edge of the deck and adding on full-width stairs to connect it better to the garden below. The stairs could also be used as tiered seating for the wedding. The team also built a white pergola at the bottom of the garden as a wedding altar. The deck handrail and pergola were painted in Resene Black White, while the shed and fence were painted in Resene Black.

On the inside, designer Melissa Greenough and the HOMEmade team decided to move the kids’ shared bedroom into a bigger space, constructing a floating bunk bed which left enough floor space to include a desk, chair and some large floor cushions. The walls and trim were trimmed with Resene Black White and the bed was painted in Resene Aviator. Resene Wallpaper Collection design SV2613, from Resene ColorShops, was used applied horizontally on the feature wall.
