Set in stone
21 Apr 2014
When artist and teacher Jacqueline Siegenthaler was looking for subject matter for beginner sculptors at the Springhill Residential Addiction Centre in Napier, she settled on paint equipment. “On a practical level, the shape of a paint pot, paintbrush etc is realistically 'doable' for any keen beginner of stone carving. With the Resene set, most Springhill attendees participating in this project could relate well to the subject, connecting it to a previous personal experience, having used paintbrushes and paint pots before. This creates an intimate relationship between the subject matter and it's inherent form.”
Made with stone funded by the Napier Creative Community Funding Scheme, the sculpture now has pride of place at the Resene ColorShop in Napier.
