Keeping New Zealand beautiful

Last month, conscious Kiwis across the nation got out their paint and rollers and took to the streets in support of Graffiti Free Week.

The campaign, which is part of Paint New Zealand Beautiful Month, was one of the most successful events to date for non-profit organisation Keep New Zealand Beautiful – with 19 registered events, seven councils involved, 2815 square metres of vandalised walls covered and more than 900 community volunteers.

Sponsored by Resene and the Ministry of Justice, Keep New Zealand Beautiful Graffiti Free Week aims to eliminate and prevent graffiti vandalism, with an approach to involving the community.

It takes place during the wider Paint New Zealand Beautiful Month, which also saw the unveiling of three historic-themed murals by Dunedin artist Jon Thom. The murals back onto the main road through the South Island town Alexandra, and depict the town’s history, known for its cycle trails, gold mining and business district.
