Black beauty

27 Jun 2018

There’s something about black exteriors on a new build that’s all at once bold, modern and beautiful. This Taranaki home is no exception, with Resene Woodsman Pitch Black stain on the verandas, Marley Stratus Design Series® Black spouting and downpipes, and ColorSteel® in Ebony on the roof. Set against a backdrop of grassy farmland, it’s a striking sight.

Verandahs stained in Resene Woodsman Pitch Black with spouting and downpipes from the Black Marley Stratus Design Series® in black.

Situated only 700 metres from the Taranaki coast, the home is often exposed to high westerly and northerly winds and salt spray. The homeowners, Ben and Tess, built and kitted out their home with this in mind.

The house has outdoor entertaining areas on both sides, so that the couple can entertain no matter which way the wind is blowing.  Large verandas stained in Resene Woodsman Pitch Black also provide protection from the sun and rain as well as substantially increasing the usable outdoor living space.

Ben is a plumber so had a wealth of knowledge when it came to chosing the right downpipes and spouting for the conditions. He picked the Marley Stratus Design Series® in the Typhoon® profile for its contemporary look and high weather and UV resistance. Because it is made of tough uPVC it won’t rust or corrode with exposure to salt water.

Inside is a softer look, painted in Resene Pearl Lusta on the walls and Resene Half Pearl Lusta on the kitchen cabinetry. The home mixes old and new, with on-trend metallic touches and vintage-looking furniture.
