What a hoot

05 Feb 2018

All around New Zealand, artists are busy painting up giant owl sculptures, getting ready for next month's opening of The Haier Big Hoot.

From 3 March in Auckland, 47 individually designed and created owl sculptures will take to Auckland's streets, parks and open spaces in what promises to be one of the biggest mass participation public art trail event ever to take place in the city.

To give you an idea of the scale and beauty, here's one of the sculptures by artist Bijana Snjegota, painted using Resene paints.

Also look out for The Little Hoot, Owlet sculptures (90cm tall) designed by students of 57 schools from around Auckland, which will appear on the trail alongside the large Owls.

At the end of the trail, the Owls will be auctioned on 29 May 2018. Proceeds from the project will go towards raising funds for the Child Cancer Foundation, which supports children with cancer and their families when they need it most.
