Get our beachy bedroom cover look

Beach brights, watery blues, honey yellows... the cover of our latest issue is all about celebrating the look of summer. We bring the best of the sunny season indoors with this stunning paint effect by Greer Clayton, using Resene testpots, and easy breezy styling by Claudia Kozub. Here's how to get the beachy bedroom look for your home.

  • The wall is painted in Resene Breathless, a cool blend of blue, lilac and grey, which sets the scene for the beach inspired colour scheme.

  • This clever paint effect was achieved by layering stripes of paint, applied with a small sponge roller available from Resene ColorShops, onto the wall.

  • The stripes are painted in Resene Escape (pale blue), Resene Galliano (honey yellow), Resene Papier Mache (tan), Resene Sandbar (ochre yellow) and Resene Coast (stark blue) – all the elements that make up a stunning seaside view.

  • Because there's a big mix of colour happening here, don't forget to include accessories in soft, natural tones for balance, from raffia hats hanging on the wall to off-white linen on the bed.

  • In saying that, feel free to use the base colour scheme to help you decide on the colours of furniture and pieces you bring into the room. Claudia's painted up a side table in Resene Coast and matched bedware to the dark blue. It looks gorgeous.

  • Claudia has painted the floor in Resene Sandbar, showing how great the look comes together with flooring in a lighter shade. If you're not looking to paint your floors, use Resene Colorwood Whitewash as a complementary alternative.

The beach and sea inspired paint effect, created using Resene testpots, could easily take on another style with a different palette of paint colours – try dusty browns and golds for a desert feel, or swamp greens and teak browns for a tribal look.
